Visit from Archbishop Leonard Blair on 1-23-15

Archbishop Blair with Mrs. Gannatti
The highlight of our celebration of Catholic Schools' Month was our  wonderful visit with Archbishop Leonard Blair on January 23, 2015.  The Archbishop, along with Dr. Dale Hoyt, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Hartford and Mrs. Maria Maynard, Assistant Superintendent and past principal of SMS and Secretary to the Archbishop, Reverend John Lavorgna, visited with students in their classrooms and shared a pizza lunch in the Parish Center.  During lunch, the Archbishop was presented with two special gifts - a Blue Knights jacket personalized with his name and our school logo and an original SMS remembrance that featured a thumb print of each student at SMS.  Click here to enjoy some additional photos from the Archbishop's visit.  Our thanks to Mrs. Anna Winkler for taking photos.

The Archbishop's first classroom stop was our PreKindergarten.

Our visitors enjoyed observing (and participating) in the Gymnastics unit
underway in the Parish Center for grade 7.

Reverend John Lavorgna, Secretary to the Archbishop, demonstrated
his skills with a hula hoop!

Our Pastor, Reverend Frank J. Matera, was able to
join the Archbishop for his school visit and shared his
thoughts about our community.

In Kindergarten, the Archbishop got to try out the Sight Words App.
In First Grade, the Archbishop got to "fish" for a question related
to the day's Religion lesson.
The Archbishop enjoyed visiting in second grade.

In Third Grade, students shared their thoughts on what they might
ask God when they got heaven.

Students in Grades 4-6 had many insightful questions
for the Archbishop.
Seventh & Eighth grade students had the opportunity to chat
about the duties of the office of Archbishop and also share
what they love about SMS.

During lunch, the Archbishop was presented with two special gifts.

Our newest honorary Blue Knight!
