IOWA Testing begins for students in grades 3 -7 on Monday, May 5/3/21.
From Monday, 5/3/21 through Friday, 5/7/21, students in grades 3-7 will be taking the IOWA Tests of Basic Skills. While these tests are one important indicator of a student's academic progress, we do strongly encourage you to help your child(ren) approach these tests with a positive outlook of relaxed confidence. Unlike many regular assessments, these tests cannot be "studied" for and the best preparation for them is a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast. Students that may feel anxious should be reminded that these tests are just one measure of progress. Please also keep in mind that it is very important for students to arrive at school PROMPTLY by 8:40AM on IOWA testing days. Late arrivals will not be permitted into a classroom if the testing has begun until there is a break. Additionally, we ask that you try to avoid scheduling doctor and dentist visits during the testing period. Students cannot be called out of class during a testing period and no announcements will be made into classrooms during testing.
Our May School Mass will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension on Thursday, 5/13/21. Some students will attend Mass in the church with the rest participating via livestream. At this time, attendance is restricted to students and faculty.

On April 23, Mrs. Williamson was honored by the University of St. Joseph with an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, in preparation for the graduation exercises to be held in May. Mrs. Williamson has recorded remarks to be shared at each of the ceremonies planned by the university.
Dr. Rhona Free, President of USJ wrote the following summary:
“It is our belief that you exemplify the very values we promote. Your years of service as an educational leader at Northwest Catholic High School and St. Mary’s School have allowed you to guide generations of young people, and brought both you and your institutions acclaim. This is demonstrated by your 2011 recognition as an outstanding high school educator by the National Catholic Educational Association, and the fact that St. Mary's School was named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Additionally, your commitment to excellence in all areas of student life can be seen in your ongoing leadership, and richly-deserved recognition, within the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference.”
Service Project News - Students in Mrs. Herron's second grade class conducted a service project during Lent. The money they earned doing extra chores has been contributed to Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Good work, Second Grade!
